Reports directly to the Director of Educational Services. Supervises assigned staff. Provides leadership, supervision and coordination to develop and maintain effective team delivery of services to students and families. Provides milieu coordination and oversees operational building functions. Requires knowledge of trauma exposure, knowledge of the 5 S's of trauma: Safety, Self-Regulation/Soothing, Supportive, Strengths, Self-Care, and an understanding of and recognition of the signs of traumatic stress. Assists educational team in maintaining student discipline in the school. Will utilize verbal and physical intervention techniques in line with agency policy. The use of physical intervention skills requires frequent kneeling and return to standing position without assistance. Employs keen observation of classrooms for disruptions, outbursts and utilization of appropriate intervention. Ensures documentation of student incidents and treatment planning as required. Demonstrates good verbal communication and ensures the written documentation required by agency, local and state licensing is provided. Participates as an inter-disciplinary team leader with all internal/external constituents.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ability to work effectively with all program participants and family members, employees and vendors in a culturally diverse environment to support healing and recovery
  • Uses therapeutic intervention techniques to monitor and control all aspects of student movement and building security
  • Provides documentation for student incidents and provides input for student behavior planning. Maintains file of critical incidents, and behavior documentation in the school setting
  • Plans and participates in educational team meetings and in-service trainings
  • Assists with outlining employee responsibilities and assignments to meet program needs
  • Interprets, facilitates and enforces the school/agency's policies and procedures
  • Communicate with various stakeholders to work as a therapeutic team member and promote student success
  • Performs responsibilities with independence, creativity and initiative, making contributions to new approaches.

  • Makes recommendations to administration for policy and program changes as needed
  • Provides regular supervision and evaluates the performance of assigned staff
  • Sets a positive example for employees, is a role model
  • Supports and trains employees on appropriate strategies using the 5 S's and therapeutic de-escalation skills
  • Promotes professional growth in employees, fostering strengths and redirecting efforts as necessary
  • Ensure employees attend training related to being trauma informed-at least two every twelve months
  • Mediate personnel conflicts with respect and dignity
  • Understand the impact of secondary trauma and workplace stress and use strategies to prevent, minimize and/or help employees heal and recover.
  • Ensure assessment tools used to inform practice and treatment include screens for trauma exposure
  • Maintain fidelity of trauma focused interventions and treatment modalities
  • Holds regular (at least bi-weekly), documented supervision of supervisees
  • Actively involved in planning and delivery of training related to own area of expertise and needs of programs supervised
  • Interprets educational trends in behavior modification techniques
  • Provides input on budgeting items in a cost-effective manner
  • Participates as an active member in administrative weekly meetings
  • Attends agency meetings as required
  • Acts as educational program ambassador for site visits and tours
  • Implements continuous quality improvement, reinforcing best-practice strategies
  • Utilizes evidence-based practices to promote an environment conducive to learning
  • Facilitation of the student curriculum in the area of LSCI, character building, diversity, and health education initiatives
  • Promotes classroom community concepts and reinforces "affective" education curriculum strategies on a daily basis
  • Participates as a member of the Performance and Quality Improvement team
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • The position requires a valid State of Illinois Special Education Teaching License (LBS1). Interest in obtaining an Administrators License Type 75 is preferred.
  • Knowledge of youth development and childhood trauma is recommended.
  • Prior experience working in settings with youth and families is preferred.
  • Personal vehicle or access to vehicle and proof of insurance
  • Valid driver's license
  • No history of child abuse or neglect
