Lawrence Hall, an Illinois Non-Profit Corporation in the field of child welfare, hereby offers, based on the application of the Candidate, to accept the Candidate into its unpaid internship program as a Volunteer Coordinator Intern.

VOLUNTEER FUNCTIONS

Lawrence Hall is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator Intern. Volunteer Coordinator Intern reports to the Manager of Specialized Services and will assist with developing the agency's volunteer policies and program. Looking for a candidate who has excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Effectively utilizes verbal and written communication skills; effective use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; and use of crisis intervention techniques (verbal only). Requires knowledge of trauma exposure, knowledge of the 5 S's of trauma: Safety, Self-Regulation/Soothing, Supportive, Strengths, Self-Care, and an understanding of and recognition of the signs of traumatic stress. Internally, students will have access to case records, program QI data, satisfaction surveys, and outcome evaluation reports for analysis and reporting. This is an ideally a 12 month commitment, but applicants requiring just a semester of administrative training exposure are welcome to apply and will be considered.

INTERN EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Creating training material for volunteers and mentors
  • Creating a procedure for the agency's volunteer process (application, orientation, oversight, training, mentor matching, etc)
  • Assists with completing a full agency assessment of agency needs and expectations
  • Assists with planning and coordinating events
  • Communicates professionally with volunteers
  • Completes Lawrence Hall's Preservice and de-escalation trainings
  • Assists in tracking the number of volunteer hours
  • Assists with volunteer orientation and volunteer training
  • Assists with Junior Board and Auxiliary Board events
  • Assists with volunteer interviews and placement
  • Upholds agency policies and procedures in accordance with departmental manuals
  • Demonstrates creativity and vision for volunteer programming
  • Establishes and maintains professional relationships with youth and responds to problem behaviors in methods established by departmental and agency policies
  • Ability to work effectively with youth and staff in a culturally diverse environment
  • Completes other duties and responsibilities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in or working on a degree in Social Services
  • 21 and older
  • Demonstrated strong writing, planning, and organizational skills
  • No history of child abuse or neglect. Must be fingerprinted and pass a criminal background check
  • Demonstrated high professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information
  • Must be in good standing with academic institution
